CYRIL LANCELIN

THE BIOGRAPHY

Cyril Lancelin (born in 1975, Lyon, France) is a French artist.

Combining technology and art, Mr Lancelin envisions sculptures and images bringing the viewer into his digital world, mixing fiction and reality. Through his works, Cyril Lancelin questions the artificial landscape. Using parametric tools, Mr Lancelin utilises a vocabulary of classical shapes and volumetric spaces essential to create unique structures. In his vision, forms are used at the architectural scale to create experiential art.

Cyril Lancelin’s work often engages the public in immersive installations, forcing the viewer to question their own relationship towards their built environment. The experience that the public draws is an essential part of the artist’s approach. Mr Lancelin creates complex structures by the accumulation of elementary forms and using a computer software, he immerses these structures into a realistic setting. All of Cyril Lancelin’s works that are built as physical installations are associated with the relationship to the human body, questioning the scale, and most significantly, bringing identity inside each social image. His projects highlight one’s “social cloud” that defines humans’ daily lives.

The art installations of Cyril Lancelin have been shown in public and private institutions around the world, mainly through large scale immersive installations in China, the Middle-East, Europe, South America and the USA.

THE INSIGHT

"Time is connected with rituals. The progression goes through the repetition of rituals. In my work, I like to work with the repetition of forms, it gives a temporality."

"The aesthetics of the caviar bead immediately led me to a design based on golden spheres. It came naturally to me that my sculpture would be based on a simple and pure form: the sphere."
