LIGHT AS AIR
As a celebration of Hong Kong’s local heritage and inspired by the pristine nature of Switzerland’s landscape, Light as Air, a site-specific public neon installation brings a new light to the city: the light from Switzerland. Drawn from instantaneous air quality index of Montreux, the work is also set to be the first interactive neon installation in Hong Kong. Light as Air puts sustainability at the forefront through its embrace of upcycled materials and circular usage. It was produced using upcycled glass from the artist’s neon-making process, as well as La Prairie’s White Caviar waste materials. The artwork is the embodiment of preservation – an act of conservation of heritage and natural wonders.
Displayed at Tai Kwun Parade Ground from March 21-27, the original installation will illuminate the city through a dazzling prism of art, craft and science with a sustainable message. In addition to the Tai Kwun Parade Ground, two other neon works were created and will be displayed at the La Prairie Lounge at Art Basel Hong Kong, and the La Prairie House in H Queen’s.
