THE ART PIECE
This work depicts a portal of infinite reflections through which the viewer can travel to an imaginary space. Layers of mirrors, reminiscent of the layers within the skin, reflect the light within the piece, creating a luminous illusion of expanded space. This image of the infinite is charged with endless possibilities, allowing a contemplative moment that invokes awareness of the transformative power of light.
A suspended piece that utilises colour to evoke both the passage of time and the constituent parts of white light. Like the pigments found naturally in the various layers that make up the skin, layers of pigmented light filters are used to create a dazzling spectrum of colour. The shape of each dot references a cellular composition while the repetition of the reflection speaks to a loss of luminosity with time.
A piece which uses light to evoke a precise geometric arrangement of atoms that constitute a molecule. Simple lines and points mimic the magnified structures. Beginning with the Science of Light, this work uses reflection and luminosity to depict the beauty of the most basic building blocks of the universe.
La Prairie's inspiring pursuit of the Science of Light serves as the premise for the luxury house’s collaboration with artist Chul-Hyun Ahn, a recognised figure in the world of Optical and Light Art, to create three unique works for display in the La Prairie Pavilion of the Collectors Lounge at the 2019 edition of Art Basel in Hong Kong.
