THE ART PIECE

Paul Coudamy
Living Cells
A geometric structure of lacquered steel and magnets, the piece’s form has been precisely defined through the mathematical formula known as Weaire-Phelan.
The construction of LIVING CELLS began with modelling each bead and its spatial assembly. Each form is then cut in steel using lasers and digital folding that follow a numbered pattern system. Each piece is then welded by hand to build the structure.
Shiny black magnetised marbles – reminiscent of caviar – colonise the structure in clusters, spreading out like a living entity over a static skeleton. The volume of the piece is in constant flux, as the magnetic tensions of the marbles are forever creating new, unique forms.

Celebrating Skin Caviar’s 30th anniversary, LIVING CELLS interprets La Prairie’s latest breakthrough innovation – Skin Caviar Absolute Filler – through the concept of volume. This recent addition to the Skin Caviar Collection restores tone and density for improved skin fullness and refined contours — a volume-enhancing formulation expressed in the art installation entitled LIVING CELLS. The striking piece has been unveiled at Art Basel in Basel as part of La Prairie’s partnership with the world’s premier art fair.
